In August, the weather in Gran Canaria is generally warm, sunny and stable, with little variation from day to day. Rainfall is extremely rare in August, and most days are characterized by clear blue skies and abundant sunshine.
Winds are generally moderate, with occasional stronger gusts. These breezes can provide welcome relief from the heat, especially in coastal areas.
Seaside weather
Near the coast, conditions are generally warm and dry, with a refreshing sea breeze. As the UV index is high, it’s essential to protect yourself from the sun. Daytime temperatures are consistently warm, and the cooler evenings are perfect for al fresco dining.

Despite the crowds, the island’s infrastructure is well equipped to cope, and you’ll find a lively atmosphere.
Dolphins and whales in August
Dolphins and whales can be seen around Gran Canaria in August, as the region is home to a wide variety of cetaceans all year round. We highly recommend it.
The most commonly observed dolphins are bottlenose dolphins, Atlantic spotted dolphins and common dolphins. They can be seen all year round.
Conditions are often just right for a boat trip.
There are tours in catamarans, speedboats and more traditional boats. Departures are mainly from the port of Puerto Rico in the south of the island.

In August, Gran Canaria hosts several noteworthy events:
- Fiesta de la Rama: one of the island’s oldest festivals (based on the tradition of bringing rain to the aboriginal population). It takes place in Agaete on August 4.
