Charming hotels in Gran Canaria
Gran Canaria is a very touristy island with many large resort hotels.
Small, charming hotels (less than 30 rooms) are concentrated in the historic center of the capital Las Palmas. Housed in historic buildings, they offer an elegant journey back in time. But not all have a swimming pool or easy access to a beach.
Outside Las Palmas, you’ll find a few small hotel options along the southern beaches with more modern decor. But there aren’t many.
1. Hotel Plaza Mayor de Santa Ana (Las Palmas)
Why stay there?
The night we spent in this old mansion in Las Palmas lived up to our expectations. Located right in the heart of the old town, this historic building left us with some memorable souvenirs. Climb to the roof terrace to enjoy the spectacular morning light over the cathedral and historic district. The attentive staff helped make our stay a pleasant one.
And, within a 10-minute walk, you’ll cover much of the city’s cultural riches.

OUR ADVICE FOR RENTING A CAR IN Gran Canaria
- Compare prices on our preferred platform: DiscoverCars – one of the best rated sites.
- If you’re planning to explore the mountains, don ‘t take the smallest cars. A more powerful engine will be more comfortable.
- But don’t take too big a car either, as some roads are narrow.
- There’s a lot of demand and it’s an island, so book early.
