Gran Canaria’s best theme parks: tips + map
In Gran Canaria, you’ll find different types of theme parks. We were amazed by the island’s varied offering. Parks with thrill rides, water parks and theme parks! There are also several animal parks and an aquarium. For the latter types of site, we recommend that you find out about the park’s ethical commitments beforehand, so that you can make an informed choice before organizing your visit. For more ideas, see our article on the best things to do on the island.
If you only need to do 3, we recommend it:
- Aqualand Maspalomas, a water park with impressive slides and giant water games
- Holiday World Maspalomas Center, the island’s theme park, with its roller coaster, Ferris wheel and flying pirate ship.
- Poema del Mar Aquarium in Las Palmas, where you can discover the beauty of the island’s marine flora and fauna and learn how to protect them.
Here’s a map to help you locate the different parks. Most are in the south of the island, in and around Maspalomas.
1. Aqualand Maspalomas water park
Why visit? Our review
Located in the famous seaside resort of Maspalomas and just a stone’s throw from Playa del Inglés, this water park offers an explosive cocktail of attractions for all ages. With 40 slides and a myriad of water games, Aqualand is Gran Canaria’s biggest water park. You can try out the Anaconda, a thrilling slide, or the water maze. There’s also a Polynesian park and gardens. Children are king!
The park also offers interactive experiences with sea lions. We’ve chosen to avoid them because we’re not very comfortable with these practices. We invite you to find out all you need to make an informed choice. It’s perfectly possible to enjoy the rest of the park by bypassing these activities.

3. Aquarium Poema del Mar
Why visit? Our review
Visit the Las Palmas Aquarium, Poema del Mar, to immerse yourself in the marine world right in the heart of Las Palmas. Did you know that it literally means “poem of the sea”? It wasn’t just the poetic name that attracted us, but our interest in the depths of the oceans and the wonders they harbor. The tanks are huge, and the variety of fish and marine species is quite impressive. The aquarium is the largest in Europe where animal welfare is respected. We appreciated the educational dimension of the experience, as the site is involved in the conservation and preservation of certain endangered species, fulfilling a mission to raise awareness of environmental challenges.

4. Sioux City theme park
Why visit? Our review
Located to the east of Maspalomas, Sioux City Park transported us to the Wild West! Find yourself in a real western town, complete with saloon, church, stables, jail and school in the colors of the American West. There’s also an Indian camp with teepees and farm animals. Enjoy cowboy and Indian shows performed by comedians. That’s what makes the park so interesting. If you don’t want to miss a show, we advise you to check the schedule carefully. Nestled in a beautiful natural enclave to the north of Maspalomas, this zoological park is also a botanical garden. In the midst of lush vegetation, you can discover numerous species of animals and plants. The park also offers live entertainment.
