Moving to Tenerife in November: quick answers

Is the weather good in Tenerife in November? Is this a good time to visit?

We particularly like Tenerife in November for its mild, pleasant climate, with average temperatures between 20°C and 24°C. Although autumn is setting in, the sun is generally still out, with 6 to 7 hours of sunshine a day. A few rainy spells can occur, especially in the north of the island, but they are generally brief. This period offers an excellent compromise between a still-favorable climate, moderate tourist numbers and attractive prices.

Travelling to Tenerife in November: summary of conditions

Temperatures

Temperatures remain mild and pleasant in November. The thermometer reads an average of 20°C to 24°C (68°F to 75°F) during the day. Evenings are cool but comfortable, with temperatures between 16°C and 19°C (61°F-66°F). We find that this period offers an ideal climate for outdoor activities, neither too hot nor too cool.

Water temperatures

Ocean temperatures start to drop slightly in November, fluctuating between 21°C and 22°C (70°F and 72°F). We still find these conditions very pleasant for swimming, especially at the beginning of the month. The water remains warm enough for water sports such as snorkeling or paddling, particularly in sheltered coves.

Crowds and prizes

November marks a slightly slower period in Tenerife, before the end-of-year vacation rush. We like this season for its quieter, more authentic atmosphere. Beaches and attractions are much less crowded, making for a more relaxed experience.

Opening conditions

Most establishments remain open in Tenerife in November. We note, however, that some seasonal facilities, such as hotel outdoor pools or water attractions, may operate on reduced schedules. Restaurants, museums and major tourist sites continue to operate as normal, sometimes with adjustments to their opening times to suit the season.

Length of day

Daylight hours average 10h45 between sunrise and sunset. The sun rises around 7.15am and sets around 6pm. This is still enough time to organize your excursions and take full advantage of the activities, even if the early sunset may seem frustrating.

Climate in Tenerife in November – weather forecast

In November, Tenerife’s climate fully enters its autumnal transition, while maintaining generally pleasant conditions. We observe more marked climatic differences between the various regions of the island.

On the coast

Along the coast, we note a clearer distinction between the north and south of the island. The south coast continues to enjoy mild, mostly sunny weather, with limited precipitation. The north, on the other hand, experiences more frequent rainy episodes, often in the form of short-lived showers. We appreciate the pleasant coolness that tempers the atmosphere, making coastal walks particularly pleasant. Evenings become cooler, sometimes requiring light clothing.

In the heights

At higher altitudes, particularly in the Teide region, we are seeing more contrasting conditions. The days remain generally clear and sunny above the sea of clouds, offering exceptional visibility of the volcanic landscapes. Daytime temperatures are moderate and perfect for exploring, but evenings and mornings can be cool, even cold. It’s not unusual to see the first icing on the highest peaks. We recommend adopting the layering principle to adapt to temperature variations.

OUR TIPS TO RENT A CAR IN Tenerife
  • Compare prices on our preferred platform: DiscoverCars – one of the best rated sites.
  • If you’re planning to explore the mountains, don ‘t take the smallest cars. A more powerful engine will be more comfortable.
  • But don’t take too big a car either, as some roads are narrow.
  • There’s a lot of demand and it’s an island, so book early.

Rain and Wind

In November, rainfall increases significantly on Tenerife, marking the heart of the wetter season. There is a significant difference between the north and south of the island. The north receives more rain, often in the form of passing showers alternating with clear spells. The south remains relatively unscathed, with a drier, sunnier climate.

  • Rainfall in Santa Cruz de Tenerife: 40mm
    (over 5-6 days on average)
  • Rainfall in Puerto de la Cruz: 60mm
    (over 6-7 days on average)
  • Rainfall in Los Gigantes: 25mm
    (over 3-4 days on average)
  • Amount of rain in Costa Adeje: 20mm
    (over 2-3 days on average)

Winds remain generally moderate in November, with occasional windier periods associated with Atlantic weather systems. We notice that the trade winds are less constant than in summer. Some days can be perfectly calm, while others experience more pronounced gusts, particularly along exposed coasts and on higher ground.

Sunshine

In November, daylight hours drop significantly, from around 11:00 at the beginning of the month to 10:30 at the end. The sun rises around 7.15am and sets around 6pm on average.

Tenerife still enjoys plenty of sunshine in November, with an average of 6 to 7 hours of sunshine a day. There is a marked difference between the north and south of the island. The south continues to enjoy plenty of sunshine, while the north may experience more cloudy spells and a few overcast days. The quality of light becomes special, with soft luminosity and striking contrasts, ideal for photographers. Sunsets are often spectacular, especially when the clouds allow a play of light on the horizon.

Water temperature – swimming in Tenerife in November

In November, sea temperatures start to decline but remain pleasant for swimming, especially at the beginning of the month. We appreciate these conditions, which still allow us to enjoy the pleasures of the water. The sea is generally warmer in the south and west of the island, where swimming remains comfortable throughout the month.

  • Water temperature in Santa Cruz de Tenerife: 21°C (70°F)
  • Water temperature in Puerto de la Cruz: 21°C (70°F)
  • Water temperature at Los Gigantes: 22°C (72°F)
  • Water temperature at Costa Adeje: 22°C (72°F)

Whale and dolphin watching

November remains a good time for cetacean watching on Tenerife, although sea conditions can be more variable. We recommend early mornings for sea outings, when the waters are generally calmer. Common dolphins, bottlenose dolphins and pilot whales are present all year round in the canal between Tenerife and La Gomera. November can also offer opportunities to spot more seasonal species such as pilot whales. Excursions are less crowded than in high season, allowing for a more personalized experience. See excursion options.

Flowers and nature

November brings a subtle renewal to Tenerife’s vegetation thanks to the first autumn rains. We’re seeing a gradual transformation of the landscape, particularly in the north and in mid-altitude areas. The Anaga laurel forest takes on more intense green hues, and some endemic plants begin to flower. The island’s botanical parks and gardens, such as the Puerto de la Cruz Botanical Garden, feature many species in bloom, including orchids and subtropical plants. It’s an ideal time of year for nature lovers and hikers, as the moderate temperatures make it easy to explore trails and nature reserves.

Crowds and other conditions

November is a slow period in Tenerife, before the influx of holidaymakers at the end of the year. We like this season for its quieter, more authentic atmosphere. Even the most popular beaches, such as Playa de las Américas and Los Cristianos, are much less popular. Tourist attractions and natural sites can be visited without significant queues, enabling a more immersive and relaxed experience.

Tourist services generally operate as normal, although some establishments may adopt off-season opening hours. We are finding that accommodation bookings are becoming more flexible and the options more numerous. This period offers an excellent opportunity to discover the island at a more leisurely pace and interact more with the local culture and people. Restaurants and cafés are less crowded, allowing for more personalized service and more authentic dining experiences.

November events in Tenerife

  • San Andrés Festival (November 29-30)
This traditional celebration marks the start of the new wine season in several of the island’s towns, including Icod de los Vinos and Puerto de la Cruz, with tastings of roasted chestnuts and young wine. The evening culminates in the custom of “tablas”, where young and old slide down the streets on wooden planks, perpetuating an ancestral tradition.
  • Fotonoviembre
Cultural event dedicated to photography organized by the Tenerife Island Photography Center.
  • Spring Surfest Las Américas Pro
A dynamic surfing event combining sport, culture, environmental activism and community involvement. It takes place from late November to early December.
  • All Saints’ Day (November 1)
This Spanish public holiday, Día de Todos los Santos, gives rise to traditional celebrations in the island’s cemeteries and churches. We observe how families pay tribute to their deceased by decorating graves with flowers and taking part in special religious services.

November prices

As everywhere, prices vary depending on what you are looking for. Accommodation ranges from youth hostels to 5-star hotels. This makes it difficult to give a precise budget. However, November is one of the most economical times to visit Tenerife. We note that accommodation rates are at an all-time low. Many hotels and apartments offer special deals to attract visitors during this slightly slower period.
