Climate in Tenerife in September – weather forecast
In September, Tenerife’s climate remains summery but becomes milder and more pleasant. We’re enjoying this period, which still offers plenty of warmth and sunshine, with a slight drop in temperatures compared to the height of summer.
On the coast
Along the coast, we’re enjoying warm, sunny weather, especially on the south coast. Temperatures remain high but are becoming more comfortable. The trade winds maintain a pleasant breeze that tempers the heat. Precipitation remains very scarce, although there are occasional light showers towards the end of the month in the north of the island.
In the heights
At higher altitudes, particularly in the Teide region, we are finding that conditions are becoming more clement for hiking and exploring. Daytime temperatures are pleasant, but temperature differences with the night remain significant. The skies are generally clear, offering excellent visibility. We recommend, however, that you bring warm clothing for early-morning or late-day excursions.

September is one of the best times to enjoy the sea in Tenerife. The temperature of the water, which has stored up the summer’s heat, reaches its annual maximum. We love these ideal conditions for swimming and water activities.
- Water temperature in Santa Cruz de Tenerife: 23°C (73°F)

Whale and dolphin watching
September offers excellent conditions for cetacean watching. Calmer seas and ideal temperatures facilitate boat excursions. We recommend morning outings from Los Cristianos, Los Gigantes or Puerto Colón, when the water surface is at its smoothest. Common dolphins, bottlenose dolphins and pilot whales are present all year round. In September, you may also spot Bryde’s whales and, with a bit of luck, sperm whales transiting Canarian waters. See excursion options.

September prices
As everywhere, prices vary depending on what you are looking for. Accommodation ranges from youth hostels to 5-star hotels. This makes it difficult to give a precise budget. However, September marks the beginning of the decline in rates after the summer high season. We are seeing a gradual decline in prices, particularly from mid-September onwards. Accommodation, restaurants and tourist activities are becoming more affordable, offering better value for money. This period represents an excellent opportunity to enjoy Tenerife in good weather conditions without the extra cost of the high season.
