Climate in Tenerife in July – weather forecast
In July, Tenerife’s climate is hot and dry, with significant variations depending on altitude and exposure. We appreciate this climatic diversity, which means you can choose between different atmospheres depending on the activities you want to do.
On the coast
Along the coast, the weather is warm and stable with very little precipitation. The south coast, especially around Costa Adeje, has the highest temperatures. We’re enjoying the trade winds, which bring a refreshing sea breeze, making the heat more bearable. Evenings remain particularly pleasant, with mild temperatures inviting evening strolls.
In the heights
At higher altitudes, particularly in the Teide area, the air is drier and cooler. Temperature variations between day and night are significant. We recommend avoiding hiking during the hottest hours of the day, as exposure to the sun is intense. Early mornings or late afternoons offer more comfortable conditions for exploring mountain trails.

OUR TIPS TO RENT A CAR IN Tenerife
- Compare prices on our preferred platform: DiscoverCars – one of the best rated sites.
- If you’re planning to explore the mountains, don ‘t take the smallest cars. A more powerful engine will be more comfortable.
- But don’t take too big a car either, as some roads are narrow.
- There’s a lot of demand and it’s an island, so book early.

Rain and Wind
In July, Tenerife has very little rainfall. We particularly appreciate this weather stability, which allows us to plan activities without fear. The south coast is particularly dry, while the north may experience a few brief morning showers which quickly dissipate.
- Rainfall in Santa Cruz de Tenerife: less than 5mm
(over 1 day on average) - Rainfall in Puerto de la Cruz: 10mm
(on average 2 days) - Los Gigantes rainfall: less than 5mm
(over 1 day on average) - Rainfall in Costa Adeje: less than 5mm
(over 1 day on average)
There’s no snow in July, even on the summit of Teide. The summer heat melts away the last traces of snow that may persist into spring.

The trade winds, characteristic of the Canaries, blow regularly in July. We appreciate their cooling effect, which tempers the summer heat. The south coast is generally more sheltered, thanks to the natural protection of Mount Teide. These constant winds also create ideal conditions for water sports such as windsurfing, particularly at El Médano.
Sunshine
In July, the day lasts around 13:40. The sun rises around 7.15am and sets at around 8.55pm.
Sunshine is at its peak in July, with an average of 10 hours of direct sunshine per day. The Teide area often enjoys perfectly clear skies, while the north can experience a few morning cloudy patches that quickly dissipate.
This long period of sunshine means you can enjoy outdoor activities to the full, but we recommend avoiding direct exposure between 12pm and 4pm, when the sun’s rays are most intense.
