Is the weather good in Tenerife in February? Is this a good time to visit?
We recommend Tenerife in February for its mild climate and pleasant temperatures ranging from 21°C to 23°C during the day. The island enjoys around 7 to 8 hours of daily sunshine and limited rainfall. It feels good if it’s winter where you live. In our opinion, it’s an ideal time to explore the island, enjoy outdoor activities and escape the European winter.

Travelling to Tenerife in February: summary of conditions
Temperatures
Temperatures are particularly mild in February. The thermometer reads an average of 20°C to 24°C (68°F to 73°F) during the day. Nights remain mild with temperatures between 16°C and 18°C (61°F-64°F). We appreciate this temperate climate, which allows us to enjoy outdoor activities to the full without suffering from the heat.
Water temperatures
Ocean temperatures are stable at around 19°C to 20°C (66°F to 68°F). We find these conditions very pleasant for swimming, if you’re not too cold. Sheltered coves and natural pools can be particularly gentle. The Canary current maintains a comfortable temperature even in winter.
Crowds and prizes
February offers an excellent compromise in terms of attendance. Apart from Carnival, which attracts many visitors, the island is relatively quiet. We particularly appreciate this period, when prices are moderate and tourist sites more accessible, allowing you to discover the island with peace of mind.
Opening conditions
All attractions, hotels and restaurants are open in February. No need to worry about theme parks, museums, villages and excursions. Opening times are adapted to the season, sometimes closing a little earlier in the evening than in summer.
Length of day
Daylight hours average 11h between sunrise and sunset. The sun rises at around 7.45am and sets at around 6.45pm, providing a beautiful day for exploring the island.

Climate in Tenerife in February – weather forecast
In February, Tenerife’s climate remains mild and pleasant, with notable variations depending on altitude and exposure. We particularly appreciate the climatic diversity that characterizes the island, offering visitors a variety of experiences.
On the coast
Along the coast, you’ll enjoy a mild climate with pleasant temperatures and plenty of sunshine. The south, especially around Costa Adeje and Los Cristianos, enjoys the mildest conditions. Rainfall is rare and generally short-lived. The sea breeze provides a pleasant coolness, ideal for outdoor activities.
In the heights
At higher altitudes, particularly around Teide, conditions are cooler and more variable. There are significant temperature differences between day and night. The summit of Teide can be snow-covered. Warm clothing is essential for mountain excursions. You may feel hot or need to wear gloves…

Rain and Wind
In February, rainfall remains moderate on Tenerife. The northern slopes generally receive more rain than the south of the island. Showers are often brief and quickly give way to sunshine. So don’t worry, just a little patience. The microclimates created by Teide have a significant influence on rainfall distribution.

In February, snow can be found on the summit of Teide, generally above 2000m. This phenomenon only affects high altitude areas and does not affect the coast.

The trade winds, regular northeasterly winds, are present in February but generally less intense than in summer. We appreciate their cooling effect, which maintains a pleasant climate. The south coast, notably Costa Adeje and Los Cristianos, remains relatively sheltered thanks to the natural protection of Mount Teide, which blocks most of the wind.

In February, daylight hours reach around 11 am. The sun rises around 7.45am and sets at around 6.45pm.
Sunshine is generous in February, with an average of 7 to 8 hours of sunshine a day. We’re particularly enjoying the brightness that characterizes Tenerife even in winter. The south of the island, in particular the Costa Adeje and Los Gigantes areas, enjoys optimum sunshine. If you get up early and we go up into the mountains, we may be able to enjoy seas of clouds.
Water temperature – swimming in Tenerife in February

Dolphins and whales in February
February is an excellent time for cetacean watching. We particularly appreciate the generally calm sailing conditions, which make it easier to find your bearings. The waters between Tenerife and La Gomera are home to a resident population of pilot whales and dolphins. Excursions depart mainly from Los Gigantes and Costa Adeje, where conditions are optimal for observation.
February events in Tenerife
February is a particularly festive month on Tenerife, with several major celebrations:
- Carnival in Santa Cruz de Tenerife
The biggest event of the year! We love the electric atmosphere of this carnival, considered the second largest in the world after Rio. For two weeks, Santa Cruz comes alive with colorful parades, concerts, dances and spectacular costume contests. - End of the Canary Islands Music Festival
This prestigious festival continues in February with classical music concerts in iconic venues such as the Tenerife Auditorium. - Candlemas Festival
Celebrated in early February, this traditional festival is marked by processions and cultural events, particularly in historic villages like La Orotava.

In February, rates are generally moderate, except during Carnival when they rise significantly, particularly in Santa Cruz de Tenerife and surrounding tourist areas.
