Located on the north coast of Tenerife, between the historic center of Puerto de la Cruz and Loro Parque, Playa Chica is a small cove of black volcanic sand. The beach is set between natural rock formations, with views of Punta Brava and the mountains.

Is Playa Chica worth it?
Yes, absolutely. It’s a pretty little beach whose intimate charm and sheltered waters we appreciated. But that doesn’t mean they can rest easy! We saw some very nice waves. The beach’s proximity to the historic heart of the city (albeit a little out of the way) makes it an ideal spot for a refreshing break between visits. In our opinion, this is one of the most beautiful beaches in Puerto de la Cruz.

Beach type: sandy, supervised…
Sand or no sand?
- The beach floor is black and volcanic, typical of Tenerife.
- The texture of the sand is fine and pleasant to walk on barefoot.
- The sand is mixed with pebbles in places.
- Because of its color, sand can be very hot in summer, so special footwear is recommended. Find out more here.

Swimming conditions and supervision
- The beach is supervised and there is a first-aid center.
- The slope is quite gentle.
- We found the waves relatively moderate, but we must remain vigilant.

Installations
- We found showers and toilets above the beach.
- Sun loungers and parasols are available for hire in season.

- Compare prices on our preferred platform: DiscoverCars – one of the best rated sites.
