Why visit Charco Los Chochos Natural Pools?
Are the Charco Los Chochos natural pools worth a visit? Our opinion:
Yes, they’re worth a visit. This site is one of the most beautiful natural pools on the island. We enjoyed this lesser-known spot than other natural pools on Tenerife, as it’s further away from the tourist towns. The wild, unspoilt environment offers an authentic experience for visitors in search of tranquillity. You’ll discover a natural setting where volcanic rock formations create a spectacular backdrop facing the Atlantic Ocean.

Our favorite moments
We loved contemplating the rugged natural landscape that characterizes this site. The rock formations surrounding the pool create sheltered coves where you can sit back and enjoy the surroundings. We were also won over by the breathtaking view of the ocean stretching as far as the eye can see. We were particularly impressed by the transparency of the water and its azure hue, even on an overcast day.

OUR TIPS TO RENT A CAR IN Tenerife
- Compare prices on our preferred platform: DiscoverCars – one of the best rated sites.
- If you’re planning to explore the mountains, don ‘t take the smallest cars. A more powerful engine will be more comfortable.
- But don’t take too big a car either, as some roads are narrow.
- There’s a lot of demand and it’s an island, so book early.

How to get there? Access road
By car, access from Santa Cruz de Tenerife or Puerto de La Cruz is easy, first taking the TF-5, then the TF-42, which runs along the coast to your destination.
The site is not accessible by public transport, so you’ll need to bring your own vehicle for this excursion.

Parking
You’ll find a small, unprepared parking lot near the natural pools, or a series of parking spaces along the seafront road.
Access to the pools is via a rocky path, so we strongly recommend you wear good shoes for this short approach walk.

Useful tips: duration, schedules, difficulties…
Best time to visit, opening hours and prices
Access to the Charco Los Chochos natural pools is free. Check tide conditions before your visit to make the most of the site. We advise you to visit in low season, as the site is very busy in summer. Avoid the mid-day peak, which is also the hottest part of the day.

Length of visit and main difficulties
Allow 30 minutes to 1 hour for your visit, or even longer if you fancy a swim.
We recommend you bring swimming shoes to avoid injuring your feet on the rocks. Unfortunately, natural pools are not suitable for people with reduced mobility or in wheelchairs, because of the stairs and uneven ground.

Catering, Toilets and Facilities
You won’t find any on-site facilities. Bring everything you need for your visit, including water, food and sunscreen.

HAVE FUN IN TENERIFE: activities

The natural azure pool
We were seduced by the wild, unspoilt environment that characterizes this exceptional site. We were particularly impressed by the clear, azure waters of the basin. Even on an overcast day, we could see the rocks at the bottom of the water with remarkable clarity. This pool invites you to snorkel and observe marine life in ideal conditions. You’ll discover a rich underwater world that will delight snorkeling enthusiasts.

Volcanic rock formations
The dark rocks surrounding the pools reveal a unique geology typical of Tenerife. We admired the rock formations that create sheltered coves for swimming. The color contrasts between the dark volcanic rock and the turquoise waters create a striking picture that we found absolutely remarkable.

One of the highlights of our visit was an encounter with a crab whose red color, punctuated by numerous white spots, was in stark contrast to the black volcanic rock – we couldn’t miss it! This natural spectacle perfectly illustrates the richness of the local fauna.

Breathtaking views of the coast and Atlantic Ocean
We enjoyed the peace and quiet of this unspoilt spot in the north of the island. During our visit, we listened to the sound of the waves crashing against the volcanic rock, an impressive sound spectacle. Although we weren’t able to swim that day due to the sea conditions, we enjoyed contemplating the infinite horizon of the ocean, lulled by the sound of the waves. Tenerife’s coastline revealed itself to us in all its wild splendor. You can take advantage of this exceptional panorama to recharge your batteries and observe the changing light on the water throughout your visit.
