Is the weather good in Tenerife in October? Is this a good time to visit?
October is one of our favorite times to visit Tenerife. The climate remains mild and sunny, with pleasant temperatures ranging from 22°C to 26°C. You’ll enjoy 7 to 8 hours of sunshine a day, although a few rainy days can occur, especially in the north of the island. We particularly appreciate this shoulder season, which combines mild weather, still-warm seas and moderate tourist numbers.

Travelling to Tenerife in October: summary of conditions
Temperatures
Temperatures in October remain mild and pleasant. The thermometer averages 22°C to 26°C (72°F to 79°F) during the day. Nights are comfortable, with temperatures between 18°C and 20°C (64°F-68°F). We find that this period offers an ideal climate, neither too hot nor too cool.
Water temperatures
Ocean temperatures remain very pleasant in October, between 22°C and 23°C (72°F and 73°F). We’re still taking full advantage of the baths, the water having retained the heat accumulated over the summer.
Crowds and prizes
October represents an intermediate season in Tenerife. We are seeing moderate tourist numbers, with an increase during the European school vacations.

Opening conditions
Everything remains accessible in Tenerife in October: attractions, hotels, restaurants and shops operate as normal. We note that some seasonal establishments are able to adapt their opening hours, but the tourist offer remains complete.
Length of day
Daylight hours average 11.5 hours between sunrise and sunset. The sun rises around 8:00 am and sets around 7:30 pm. This gives you plenty of time to explore the island and enjoy outdoor activities, although the days get progressively shorter.

Climate in Tenerife in October – weather forecast
In October, Tenerife’s climate enters an autumnal transition, while maintaining pleasant conditions. There are slight variations in climate across the island, offering a variety of experiences for visitors.
On the coast
Along the coast, we’re still enjoying mild, generally sunny weather. The south coast remains the preferred location, with more sunshine and slightly higher temperatures. Rainfall is beginning to increase, mainly in the north of the island, but remains moderate and generally short-lived. We particularly appreciate the predominantly clear days, ideal for outdoor activities and swimming.
In the heights
At higher altitudes, particularly in the Teide region, we find particularly favorable conditions for exploration. Daytime temperatures are moderate and perfect for hiking, although evenings can become cool. The sky is often clear above the sea of clouds, offering spectacular panoramas. The first autumn rains can refresh the atmosphere and revive the vegetation, slightly transforming the volcanic landscapes.

- If you’re planning to explore the mountains, don ‘t take the smallest cars. A more powerful engine will be more comfortable.
- But don’t take too big a car either, as some roads are narrow.
- There’s a lot of demand and it’s an island, so book early.

Rain and Wind
In October, rainfall begins to increase slightly on Tenerife, marking the start of the wetter season. There is a noticeable difference between the north and south of the island, with the latter remaining much drier. Showers are generally short-lived, alternating with sunny spells.

Trade winds continue to blow in October, but generally with moderate intensity.

Sunshine
In October, daylight hours gradually decrease, from around 11:45 at the beginning of the month to 11:00 at the end. The sun rises around 8:00 am and sets around 7:30 pm on average.
Tenerife still enjoys plenty of sunshine in October, with an average of 7 to 8 hours of sunshine a day. The south of the island remains favored with more sunny hours, while the north may experience more frequent cloudy spells.
Water temperature – swimming in Tenerife in October
October remains an excellent time to enjoy the sea in Tenerife. The water temperature, which has benefited from the summer heat, remains very pleasant. We love these conditions, which make for long, comfortable swims and plenty of water activities such as snorkeling, diving and paddleboarding.

Whale and dolphin watching
October offers good conditions for whale and dolphin watching in Tenerife’s waters. The sea is generally calm and the water temperature ideal. We recommend morning excursions from Los Cristianos, Los Gigantes or Puerto Colón to maximize your chances of sightings. As everywhere, prices vary depending on what you are looking for. Accommodation ranges from youth hostels to 5-star hotels. This makes it difficult to give a precise budget. However, October generally offers attractive rates in Tenerife. We find that prices are much more affordable than in the high summer season, especially outside school vacation periods.
