Temperatures

Temperatures are very pleasant in April. The thermometer reads an average of 19°C to 23°C (66°F to 73°F) during the day. Nights are mild, with temperatures around 17°C-19°C (63°F-66°F). We particularly appreciate this period, when the heat is ideal for enjoying outdoor activities without suffering from the high summer temperatures.

Water temperatures

The temperature of the Atlantic Ocean is around 19°C to 21°C (66°F to 70°F). We find these conditions perfect for swimming and water sports. The waters are calm and clear, ideal for snorkeling and diving. But some will still find the water a little cold.

Crowds and prizes

April is an intermediate period in Tenerife. Apart from the Easter vacations, which can attract larger crowds, attendance remains moderate. Prices are reasonable, especially for accommodation and tourist activities. We particularly appreciate this quieter period, which allows us to enjoy the island with peace of mind.

Everything is open in Tenerife in April: attractions, hotels, restaurants and shops are in full swing. Nature parks and hiking trails are in optimal condition, and water sports activities are in full swing with calm seas and mild weather.

Climate in Tenerife in April – weather forecast

In April, Tenerife’s climate is particularly pleasant and stable. We enjoy this period when the different areas of the island offer optimal conditions for exploration and outdoor activities.

On the coast

Along the coast, conditions are ideal with mild, sunny weather. The southern coastal areas, notably Costa Adeje and Los Cristianos, enjoy the mildest temperatures. You can take advantage of the sea breezes that temper the heat, making beach activities and walks very pleasant. Rainfall is rare on the coast at this time of year.

In the heights

At higher altitudes, particularly in the Teide National Park, temperatures are cooler. We recommend bringing warm clothing for mountain excursions, as temperatures can vary significantly between day and night. The summit of Teide may still have a few traces of snow.

OUR TIPS TO RENT A CAR IN Tenerife
  • Compare prices on our preferred platform: DiscoverCars – one of the best rated sites.
  • If you’re planning to explore the mountains, don ‘t take the smallest cars. A more powerful engine will be more comfortable.
  • But don’t take too big a car either, as some roads are narrow.
  • There’s a lot of demand and it’s an island, so book early.

Whale and dolphin watching

April is an exceptional time for cetacean watching. We particularly like the sea outings from Los Gigantes or Costa Adeje, where the calm waters make it easy to find your bearings. Pilot whales and dolphins are present all year round. In April, you can also watch the pilot whales that frequent the channel between Tenerife and La Gomera. Visibility is excellent and the calm sea offers optimal conditions for excursions.

April events in Tenerife

  • Semana Santa (Holy Week)
Easter celebrations are particularly important on Tenerife. We recommend the impressive processions through the streets of La Laguna and Santa Cruz, with their traditional parades and solemn atmosphere.
  • San Marcos festival in Tegueste
