Is the Agaete Valley Route worth a visit?

Absolutely! This winding road through the Agaete Valley, also known as GC 231, is one of the most beautiful in Gran Canaria. We took it and enjoyed the inland trip, despite the few stops. Soak up the island’s picturesque scenery as you admire mountains and lush plantations. The view from the mirador is nice, but the rest of the route seemed more spectacular. Like us, take the opportunity to stop off at Casa Romantica, an authentic coffee farm, and the charming village of San Pedro below.

This is one of the best things to do around Agaete!

OUR ADVICE FOR RENTING A CAR IN Gran Canaria
  • Compare prices on our preferred platform: DiscoverCars – one of the best rated sites.
  • If you’re planning to explore the mountains, don ‘t take the smallest cars. A more powerful engine will be more comfortable.
  • But don’t take too big a car either, as some roads are narrow.
  • There’s a lot of demand and it’s an island, so book early.

Useful tips: duration, schedules, difficulties…

Best time to visit

The road is busiest in high season, but traffic flows smoothly. Try the adventure any time!

Directions

Length of visit and main difficulties

Allow 1 hour to get from Agaete to the end of the valley and back, including stops. The road becomes steeper and steeper as you approach the viewpoint at the top.

Catering, Toilets and Facilities

There are a few restaurants on the road, especially towards the village of San Pedro. There are no public toilets.

A winding road

Route

The Agaete Valley Road winds its way through the mountains. There are also a few straight lines that we found, like the laces, magnificent!

A mountain landscape

Mountains

We gazed at the island’s lacy volcanic mountains!

Lush countryside

Route

Nature is greener here than on the coast. The color of the almost tropical flowers, shrubs and cacti accompanied us along the way.

Terraced fields

Fields

Pretty fields and various farms punctuate the landscape. These terraces reminded us of the valleys of Asia.

Beautiful plantings

We stopped off at Casa Romantica, a coffee plantation. You can visit it!

A charming little village

Village

San Pedro nestles in the heart of the valley below. We found this little village of white houses absolutely charming.

A fascinating point of view

Viewpoint

At the very top of the valley is the mirador. The viewpoint offers an imposing panorama of the valley and the sea in the distance. It was a real eye-opener!
