Are you holidaying in Gran Canaria? Discover the Las Salinas natural pools, unquestionably the most beautiful on the island! Located on the west coast in the pretty town of Agaete, these sea pools offer crystal-clear water and superb views of the lava cliffs or the ocean. We were won over by this place, which is both beautiful and fun!

Here are some useful tips to help you prepare for your visit and have a wonderful time!

Why visit Las Salinas natural pools?

Are natural pools worth a visit? Our opinion:

Absolutely! The natural pools of Agaete are, in our opinion, the most beautiful in Gran Canaria(see our list). Surrounded by volcanic rock, the site offers beautiful panoramic views of the west coast cliffs. We had a great time in the 3 different pools, which are interconnected by small underwater tunnels. Hold your breath and swim from one to the other!

The place really did seem magical! This is one of the best activities not only inAgaete but also in Gran Canaria!

Our favorite moments

Swimming pools are a playground, but also a place to relax! We loved it:

  • The view of the black lava cliffs and the azure sea.
  • Underwater tunnels to move from one pool to another.
  • Water transparency!

OUR ADVICE FOR RENTING A CAR IN Gran Canaria
  • Compare prices on our preferred platform: DiscoverCars – one of the best rated sites.
  • If you’re planning to explore the mountains, don ‘t take the smallest cars. A more powerful engine will be more comfortable.
  • But don’t take too big a car either, as some roads are narrow.
  • There’s a lot of demand and it’s an island, so book early.

How to get there?

The site is accessible by car and bus (101, 103, 130).

Parking

We parked in the Las Salinas parking lot. The soil is earthy and stony but suitable. If the parking lot is full, you can also leave your car at the Puerto de la Nieves parking lot and walk along the seafront for 10 minutes to reach the swimming pools.

Best time to visit

It’s a great place to go all year round! In winter, the climate remains mild in the Canaries and you can enjoy a swim. In summer, visitor numbers are on the rise, but the natural pools of Las Salinas are a little less touristy than other sites on the island!

WHERE TO STAY INAgaete

Option 1: Puerto de la Nieves by the sea

For example:

  • Hotel Occidental Costa Negra, with view – See prices, photos and availability
  • Hotel Puerto de la Nieves, near the beach – See prices, photos and availability

Option 2: in the old town and valley

Here you’ll find mainly apartments and small houses for rent, in a quiet location and at lower prices than in the major seaside resorts.

Length of visit and main difficulties

Take time to enjoy the pools! You can spend 30 minutes walking around, taking photos and admiring the sights. Or you can stay for half a day if you’re in the mood for lazing around and sunbathing.

There are no particular difficulties in accessing the site. Access to the pools is via staircases that descend into the water. There’s no sand, but rather rough volcanic stone.

Visiting with children

A great place for a family outing! The pools are protected from the waves and ideal for fun. Younger visitors will love the water tunnels. However, the pools are deep (but not deep enough for diving, mind you) and if your children haven’t yet learned to swim, armbands or buoys will be necessary.

Catering, Toilets and Facilities

We saw toilets right next to the pools. There’s also a snack bar, but we didn’t try it out. Dogs, parasols, deckchairs and camping are prohibited. The beach is not supervised.

A breathtaking landscape

We found the Salinas site to be magnificent and the landscape awe-inspiring! Enjoy the pleasures of wide-open spaces as you stroll along the shore and swim. The view of the ocean and coast from the water is superb.

Basin

The contrast between the arid black of the volcanic rock and the blue of the ocean has won us over! We were particularly taken by the beauty of the rock formations and the turquoise color of the water. Photo enthusiasts will be delighted!

An aquatic playground

The natural pools of Las Salinas are also great fun! We had a lot of fun going through the underwater tunnels to get from one pool to another. It was fun! Like us, slip into the skin of a diver and explore the seabed.

Tunnel

You can also enjoy the bay right next to the natural pools. Play with the waves and let them wash over you, provided they’re not too strong. Watch out for the swell, of course!
