Is a visit to the Elder Museum worthwhile?
Yes, it’s worth a visit! Located near Santa Catalina Park, the Elder Museum won us over with its interactive and varied approach. A true journey into science and technology! We explored the sky, the human body, maritime life and the technological history of the Canaries. Activities such as taking in a green-screen 3D movie theater, being carried by a giant robot or riding in a real fighter jet will thrill those who love experiences.
This is one of the best activities in Las Palmas!
What you can see
A real fighter plane
As soon as we entered, we came across this superb fighter plane. You can even climb into the cockpit!
A simulated vehicle
You can also try a driving simulation and get shaken up! Fasten your seatbelt.
The Robocoaster attraction
A giant robot will also carry those who wish to be carried. A little nervous, we didn’t give it a try.
OUR ADVICE FOR RENTING A CAR IN Gran Canaria
- Compare prices on our preferred platform: DiscoverCars – one of the best rated sites.
- If you’re planning to explore the mountains, don ‘t take the smallest cars. A more powerful engine will be more comfortable.
- But don’t take too big a car either, as some roads are narrow.
- There’s a lot of demand and it’s an island, so book early.
A green-screen 3D cinema
Plenty of seats await those who want to see how a 3D film is shot on green screen. We didn’t get to see the show.
Historic technology
We also saw an old harbor tractor, a wooden water-carrying machine and some old science books.
A marine laboratory
On the 1st floor, a marine laboratory transported us to the heart of the ocean and the world of cetaceans.
A planetarium and strange machines
The museum also revealed some of the secrets of space through its planetarium.
A dive into the human body
A series of large panels educate on the importance of sporting activity and good nutrition.
A gallery of skeletons
A gallery of skeletons reminded us of the Canaries’ past and how the animal body works!
How wind turbines work revealed
A small part of the exhibition is devoted to ecological technologies such as wind turbines.
A fascinating temporary exhibition
On the 2nd floor, we visited a beautiful temporary exhibition on the first ocean liners!
Scientists from the Canary Islands and Augustín de Betancourt
Another area of the museum is dedicated to scientists from the Canary Islands. Among other things, we learned about Augustín de Betancourt, a famous Canarian engineer!
