Is a visit to the El Huerto de las Flores botanical garden worthwhile?
Yes, it’s worth a visit. This 3000m2 garden may be small, but we think it has a certain charm! In the 19th century, the garden’s owners, the Armas family, imagined a tropical garden gathering seeds from every continent, especially America. We admired more than 200 exotic plant species, including macadamia (the Australian hazelnut to which Claire is allergic…), maracca, mammee… Enough to delight botanical enthusiasts and artists alike. Canary Islands poet Saulo Torón, for example, came here for inspiration.
The garden is one of the most beautiful places to visit in Agaete!
What you can see
A pebble-walled entrance
As soon as we entered, we noticed the pebble wall covered with white lime, typical of Gran Canaria. It surrounds the garden and gives it real local color!
Large exotic trees
In the center of the garden, venerable trees from distant horizons flourish! We were impressed by the large Argentine ombu and the astonishing Asian banyan tree.
OUR ADVICE FOR RENTING A CAR IN Gran Canaria
- Compare prices on our preferred platform: DiscoverCars – one of the best rated sites.
- If you’re planning to explore the mountains, don ‘t take the smallest cars. A more powerful engine will be more comfortable.
- But don’t take too big a car either, as some roads are narrow.
- There’s a lot of demand and it’s an island, so book early.
A round fountain
A small, round fountain adds a touch of freshness to the area. We spotted birds quenching their thirst.
A charming staircase
A few steps away, we climbed a lovely staircase to get some height and admire the garden from a little higher up.
Coconut and palm trees
True symbols of exoticism, coconut and palm trees punctuate the garden with their long palms. We love these trees!
Scents from elsewhere
Garden rhymes with fragrance! We passed by the camphor tree and touched its fragrant bark.
A poetic stroll
In the middle of the garden stands a ceramic stele on which is written a beautiful poem in Spanish.
Lush paths
We enjoyed wandering along the garden’s lush green paths. Heliconias and philodendrons caressed us with their large leaves!
A dive into the rainforest
With its lianas and tall trees from elsewhere, the garden seemed like a small tropical forest to us!
