Is Playa de Tauro worth it?
Yes, it’s a beautiful beach and well worth a visit. It is located between 2 seaside resorts, Playa del Cura and Playa Amadores, to the north of the village of Puerto Rico, on the southwest coast of Gran Canaria. It is known for its tranquil, unbuilt setting and is mostly frequented by locals.
This is one of our favorite beaches in Gran Canaria.
Type of beach
Sand or no sand?
Most of the beach is made up of fine golden sand. In places, there are stretches of black volcanic stone polished by the waves.
Once in the water, there’s nothing left but sand. We really enjoyed swimming there.
Swimming conditions and supervision
Playa de Tauro is located in a sheltered cove. There are few wavesand the slope is gentle. Some bathers come by boat and anchor off the beach. It’s a perfect place for swimming and relaxing.
The beach is unsupervised.
Installations
We didn’t see any showers or toilets on the beach. There’s no more equipment, just a few buildings.

OUR ADVICE FOR RENTING A CAR IN Gran Canaria
- Compare prices on our preferred platform: DiscoverCars – one of the best rated sites.
- If you’re planning to explore the mountains, don ‘t take the smallest cars. A more powerful engine will be more comfortable.
- But don’t take too big a car either, as some roads are narrow.
- There’s a lot of demand and it’s an island, so book early.
Access from Playa del Cura
There are more parking spaces at the nearby resort of Playa del Cura. You can then walk to Playa de Tauro along the beach. It’s important to keep an eye on the tides, however, as you have to go around a cliff that the ocean reaches at high tide.
Public transport access
We saw a bus stop above the beach: Tauro.
It is served by several lines from Playa del Cura, Puerto de Morgan or Taurito.
