Located in the village of Agaete, in the north-west of Gran Canaria, Playa de las Nieves is a pretty black sand beach typical of the island’s volcanic landscape. We loved its small size and the beautiful view of the mountains!

Is Playa de las Nieves worth it?
Yes, that’s right! We enjoyed this beach. You’ll love its wild character, black sand and superb views of the mountainous coastline! It’s the ideal place to spend a lazy day swimming and enjoying the scenery. This is one of Gran Canaria’s most beautiful beaches!

- If you’re planning to explore the mountains, don ‘t take the smallest cars. A more powerful engine will be more comfortable.
- But don’t take too big a car either, as some roads are narrow.
- There’s a lot of demand and it’s an island, so book early.

- From downtown Agaete: 10min walk and 5min drive
- From Las Palmas: 30min by car

How to get there – access road
The beach can be reached by car. It’s the best way to get around the island. Would you like to rent a car in Gran Canaria? Read our tips on the subject!
To get to Playa de las Nieves by public transport, take buses 102, 103 or 130 and get off at the Puerto de las Nieves stop.
Playa de las Nieves parking lot
There’s a dedicated parking lot right next to the beach. It is run by private individuals and payment is made in cash. Alternatively, you can park in an unpaved parking lot near the Las Salinas natural pools and walk to the beach, which takes around 10 minutes.
Access to the beach from the parking lot
From the town parking lot, it’s a 10-minute walk to Playa de las Nieves. There are no major difficulties, but comfortable shoes are recommended.
On the sand and in the water…practical advice
Best time to visit
Playa de las Nieves is a great place to spend a day all year round! Temperatures remain mild in the Canaries in winter and there are a few less crowds. In summer, prefer mornings and weekdays to avoid the crowds.
Beach type and size
Playa de las Nieves is frequented by locals and tourists alike, who come to enjoy its crystal-clear waters and peaceful ambience. It’s a small beach characterized by a mix of black rocks, pebbles and black sand.
Conditions for swimming
The beach has a gentle slope and moderate depth, ideal for swimming. You can also enter the water via a ladder installed on the dike. The water is clear and clean. There are pebbles in the sea and a few black rocks. Why not wear swimming shoes?

Showers, toilets, deckchairs…
We didn’t see any toilets, but there are showers. Sun loungers and parasols are not available for hire.

Bring your own umbrella or hat if you need shade.
Nautical activities
The beach is right next to a small port, Puerto de las Nieves, which we found very appealing. From here, ferries depart for Tenerife. Why not take a trip to this other Canary Island? The journey takes only 1h20!

Playa de las Nieves with children
There are no children’s playgrounds at Playa de las Nieves, but the water is mostly calm and shallow near the shore. What’s more, our youngest guests can play with the sand and pebbles.

Dogs are not allowed.
Playa de las Nieves with reduced mobility
It’s possible to walk along the beach on the stone path. A ramp provides access to the beach, and a wooden path also leads down to the water.

No, Playa de las Nieves is not a naturist beach.
What to see on and around the beach
From the beach, we admired the cliffs and mountains. You can also see the port and contemplate the boats and ferries. The scenery is worth the detour!
