Just a few minutes from the pretty town of Agaete in north-west Gran Canaria, Playa de Guayedra is a beach of wild charm. The fruit of the island’s basaltic geology, the site combines steep rock formations with the roundness of large black pebbles. We loved this intimate beach that also offers beautiful panoramic views of the sea and the greener hinterland.

Is Playa de Guayedra worth it?
Yes, it’s a lovely beach and well worth a visit. We enjoyed the short walk down to the water’s edge, but also the dark rock formations and large pebbles that line the beach. The panoramic view of the ocean and surrounding area is well worth the detour. Lovers of sunsets and beautiful views, as well as solitary enthusiasts, will find much to enjoy here.
This is one of Agaete’s most beautiful beaches and one of the sites to discover around the town.
Type of beach
Sand or no sand?
The beach floor is made of coarse pebbles and, in a small section, black sand (grey when not wet). We loved walking the strike! We do, however, recommend that you wear suitable footwear and bring swimming shoes if you want to try a dip in the sea.
Swimming conditions and supervision
The beach is unsupervised, and access to the water can be slippery if you swim on the pebble beach. Swimming is easier in the sandy part of the site.
Installations
We didn’t see any showers or toilets. However, you’ll find garbage cans for sorting waste in the parking lot.

Access by car and parking
It’s not so easy to find this pretty beach! From the GC-200 main road, don’t miss the discreet exit at the Barranco de Guayedra hairpin. Once there, continue for 700m on a narrow dirt road. There are only 4 parking spaces. To reach the beach, we then walked 10min downhill. The path, although steep, presents no particular difficulties in reaching the first rocky beach. Allow a further 5 minutes to reach the one with a bit of sand.
OUR ADVICE FOR RENTING A CAR IN Gran Canaria
- Compare prices on our preferred platform: DiscoverCars – one of the best rated sites.
- If you’re planning to explore the mountains, don ‘t take the smallest cars. A more powerful engine will be more comfortable.
- But don’t take too big a car either, as some roads are narrow.
- There’s a lot of demand and it’s an island, so book early.
Public transport access
Bus 101 from Agaete can drop you off at the Guayedra stop. However, you will be limited in terms of timetables and will have to walk a little further to reach the beach.

Special features
Dog
We didn’t see any signs regarding dog access to the beach.
Reduced mobility access
There are no facilities for disabled access.
With children
The beach is not ideal for a visit with children, given the slope, possible current and rocks. Which doesn’t seem to us to offer the best conditions for a family getaway.
Naturism
It is possible to practice naturism on this beach. But there are very few people, given the enclosed nature of the beach and the lack of parking spaces.
Eating out
There are no food outlets on the beach or in the immediate vicinity. Head for Agaete, which has a great selection of fish and seafood restaurants!
