Bordered by a beautiful promenade, it offers a wide range of facilities, bars and restaurants. It is also very popular with water sports enthusiasts, such as diving and snorkeling. OUR ADVICE FOR RENTING A CAR IN Gran Canaria
- Compare prices on our preferred platform: DiscoverCars – one of the best rated sites.
- If you’re planning to explore the mountains, don ‘t take the smallest cars. A more powerful engine will be more comfortable.
- But don’t take too big a car either, as some roads are narrow.
- There’s a lot of demand and it’s an island, so book early.

On the sand and in the water…practical advice
Best time to visit
Playa de las Canteras is great to enjoy all year round! Temperatures remain mild in the Canaries in winter and there are a few less crowds. In summer, we recommend early mornings and weekdays to avoid the crowds. The beach is very popular and attracts large crowds.
Beach type and size
Playa de las Canteras is a large urban beach with several sections and a long promenade.
We found fine golden sand in which we loved to dip our toes!
Conditions for swimming
Playa de las Canteras has a gentle slope and a depth ideal for swimming. Protected by a coral reef (the Barra) that attenuates waves, the sea is generally calm. We found the water quality to be good. We also saw signs explaining the marine flora and fauna, which bodes well for snorkelling conditions!
