Why stay at Hotel Gloria Palace Royal?
The hotel is an excellent option if you’re looking for a sunny, luxury stay that lets you take full advantage of all Puerto Rico has to offer.
Here are its 3 main assets:
- The view of the Atlantic Ocean is everywhere, wherever you are in the hotel, whether from your room or the common areas, and even from the all-glass exterior elevator. We were very impressed from the moment we arrived.
- Rooms are spacious, comfortable and well-appointed, with a lovely terrace overlooking the waterfront. We appreciated having all the space we needed to make the most of our stay.
- The infinity pool is really beautiful. This is the hotel’s main pool, with 3 in all. It offers panoramic views over Playa de Amadores and beyond to the horizon. We loved swimming in its crystal-clear waters. It’s an exceptional place to relax.

Is the Hotel Gloria Palace Royal worth it? Our review
The Hotel Gloria Palace Royal is probably, in our opinion, one of the best hotels in Puerto Rico. We particularly appreciated the spectacular ocean views, especially from the infinity pool. The spacious rooms are also a real asset, with large balconies where you can relax and enjoy the view in complete privacy. Every moment of our stay was conducive to relaxation and well-being. The spa services further enhanced this feeling.
Decoration and atmosphere
Communal areas, such as the lobby and lounges, are bright and inviting, with a view of the ocean that’s hard to get enough of. Their style is modern and sober, with touches of color here and there. Contemporary works of art add a touch of sophistication.
We really liked the large terraces, like the one on the rooftop. The space seems immense. The neutral, subdued tones of the outdoor furniture reinforce this feeling. We felt as if we were suspended between the sky and the sea.

The room
Our room was a very spacious family room. The view, from the large bay window, is the first thing you see. The decor was modern and sober. We liked the combination of wood and rough stone, with the green touch of textiles.
There was even a sort of raised stone column, reminiscent of the hotel’s location, giving the feeling of being part of the cliff, as if we were in a highly sophisticated cave.
And of course, there was the big bacon terrace overlooking the ocean! 2 large wicker deckchairs, 2 armchairs and a matching table were already inviting us to relax. No sooner had we set down our suitcases than we settled in to enjoy the view!
And there were some lovely surprises on offer. A plate of fruit, a bottle of water and a bottle of champagne awaited us. Our stay started well.
Our room also had a small kitchenette with sink, microwave, kettle, coffee maker, plates and cutlery. So many facilities that made our stay pleasant and comfortable.

The bathroom
In our room, the bathroom, all marble with a few touches of dark wood, was not very large. It was, however, highly functional. It featured both a shower and a bathtub. The worktop around the sink was large enough to hold our beauty products and accessories.
Hygiene products from the Gloria Palace cosmetics brand were available. There was also a bathrobe and slippers. Small detail, but not the least, on a site where water can be scarce, the water pressure was excellent.
The breakfast
Breakfast is served in the hotel’s main restaurant. It’s a buffet where you can also order an omelette to suit your tastes. There’s a wide choice of products, both sweet (pastries, fresh-cut fruit, yoghurt, etc.) and savoury (cheeses, cold meats, ready-made meals, salmon, raw vegetables, etc.).
We really enjoyed the cooked dishes. They’re homemade. Please note, however, that the restaurant is very large and rather noisy. But here, too, the ocean view is magnificent.
Swimming pools and beaches
There are 3 swimming pools at Hotel Gloria Palace Royal:
- The main pool is a bean-shaped infinity pool with a breathtaking ocean view. It’s equipped with a sloping surface for gentle entry into the water, and a Jacuzzi where we enjoyed relaxing.
- The rooftop pool on the hotel’s top floor. It’s an above-ground pool with glass walls to make the most of the view.
- The children’s pool is a small circular pool at the far end of the main pool. It is part of the activity area dedicated to the little ones.
Finally, the hotel overlooks Playa de Amadores. A very pretty cove-shaped beach, which in our opinion is one of the most beautiful in Gran Canaria. We enjoyed the fine sand and turquoise waters with great pleasure. The sunset is magnificent.
Equipment and common areas
In addition to its panoramic views and swimming pools, Hotel Gloria Palace Royal’s greatest strength is its spa, which offers a wide range of services. There’s also a fitness room and plenty of facilities for children.
- The spa and wellness center is a marvel. We found a swimming pool heated to 35°, with whirlpool baths and water jets of all kinds, micro-bubble beds… There are also numerous body and facial treatments, a hairdressing salon and a relaxation terrace.
- The fitness center, with its large mirrors, is equipped with numerous Bodytone and Technogym cardio and weight machines. Some have been set up on the terrace so that they can practice outside.
- Children’s areas are plentiful. In addition to the pool, we saw a shaded play area and a miniclub, Tina’s Club. Games and activities are also organized for the little ones, including mini-discos in the Lounge Bar. There are also special times for them at the spa, provided they are accompanied by an adult.
The restoration
We mainly ate in the hotel’s main restaurant. It’s a classic buffet, from breakfast to dinner. We also enjoyed the more gourmet Restaurant Kaia at the very top of the hotel.
We sampled the Testing Menu, which allowed us to try a whole range of dishes (in small portions): Iberian pork carpaccio, sea bass with olives, veal fillet with piquillos… Don’t forget to book.
The hotel also boasts 4 bars: Mirador Pool Bar, at the very top next to the pool; Paraiso Snack Bar, by the main pool; Lounge Bar, with live music and entertainment; and Lobby Bar, near the entrance, which offers drinks only.
History
Hotel Gloria Palace Royal is part of the Gloria Thalasso & Hotels chain. It was founded in 1988 by a Basque entrepreneur, Estanislao Mañaricúa. He had spent his honeymoon in Gran Canaria and had fallen in love with the region. He pioneered the integration of thalassotherapy into beach hotels in the Canary Islands, a concept that already existed elsewhere in Europe. The Gloria Palace Royal opened its doors in 2008.
