Is Playa Puerto de Santiago worth it?
Yes, this little urban beach, also known as Playa de Santiago or Playa Chica, is well worth a visit. It’s easy to get to, and a great place to take a dip between visits. The sea was rough during our visit and swimming impossible, but the location of this little cove seemed ideal for a refreshing break. One of the locals’ favorite spots, it’s alsoone of ours at Los Gigantes.

Type of beach
Sand or no sand?
- The beach is a mixture of black sand and pebbles.
- It is set in the black volcanic rock of Tenerife.
- As a precaution, we recommend that you wear swimming shoes, especially in summer when the black sand becomes scorching hot under the sun.

Swimming conditions and supervision
The waves can be quite high, and you need to be aware of the tides as the beach is small. We couldn’t find any information about beach surveillance.

Installations
We noted the presence of showers on the beach. There’s a toilet a little further up, on the other side of the road. However, deckchairs and parasols are not available for hire.
