We recommend a visit to Playa del Duque in Costa Adeje. Located in the south-west of Tenerife, this town beach is long and very well equipped. Bordered by the seafront promenade, it’s close to the resort’s vibrant center. We enjoyed some superb sunsets.

Why visit Tenerife’s Playa del Duque?
Playa del Duque is one of Costa Adeje’s most beautiful beaches and best activities! This large beach is very popular because of its proximity to the town center. It is also well equipped. For a relaxing day on the beach in Tenerife, this place is a must! We really enjoyed walking along the beach at dusk. Beyond the superb scenery, we were delighted to dip our feet in the black sand warmed by the last rays of the sun.
Find out more about the 3 main assets of this beach in our eyes:
- Location: close to many shops, restaurants and hotels. You’ll also be close to the resort’s lively town center.
- Facilities: well-equipped with sun loungers, Balinese beds, umbrellas, showers, toilets and even bars right on the sand where you can sip a cocktail facing the water.
- Landscape: it offers breathtaking views of the Atlantic Ocean, especially at sunset!

OUR TIPS TO RENT A CAR IN Tenerife
- Compare prices on our preferred platform: DiscoverCars – one of the best rated sites.
- If you’re planning to explore the mountains, don ‘t take the smallest cars. A more powerful engine will be more comfortable.
- But don’t take too big a car either, as some roads are narrow.
- There’s a lot of demand and it’s an island, so book early.
Playa del Duque parking lot
You’ll find a few parking spaces in the streets near Playa del Duque, but they are quickly snapped up. We opted for the Plaza del Duque shopping center parking lot south of the beach, where the first hour was free.
Access to the beach from the parking lot
To reach the beach from the Plaza del Duque shopping center parking lot, walk down Calle Unterhacing. Once you’ve reached the traffic circle, you’ll be able to make out the beach just a few metres away. As a landmark, you’ll pass The Corner Adeje shopping center.

On the sand and in the water…practical advice
Best time to visit
Playa del Duque is a very popular destination, especially during the summer season. To avoid peak periods, we recommend visiting outside July, August and school vacations. Nevertheless, these are months when the water temperature is very pleasant. The daytime peak is between 11 a.m. and 3 p.m., when most tourists come to enjoy the sun and sea. Plan to arrive early in the morning or late in the afternoon to avoid the crowds.
Beach type and size
The beach floor is made up of fine black sand, which is pleasant to walk on. We noticed small pebbles and shells too.
Because of its length, the beach is divided into 2 sections: Playa del Duque Nord and Playa del Duque Sud. It’s the perfect place for a sunset stroll with your feet in the water!
Conditions for swimming
Swimming conditions are good. The descent into the water is gradual, but soon deep. The bathing area is clearly demarcated between 2 rock dikes. The beach is supervised. There’s also a first-aid post on site. Water quality is indicated by a blue flag, guaranteeing high standards. But beware of potential jellyfish.
Facilities and activities
Monitoring
The Playa del Duque is guarded from 10am to 6pm in summer and from 9am to 5pm in winter.
Showers, toilets, deckchairs…
We observed showers and toilets on the beach. You can also rent deckchairs or Balinese beds to make the most of the moment!
Shadow
There’s no natural shade on the beach, but parasols can be rented for protection from the sun.
Nautical activities
We didn’t notice any water sports activities on the beach. However, we did have the opportunity to contemplate Playa del Duque from the sea on a dolphin-watching cruise departing from Puerto Colon – see excursion details.
Catering
You’ll find plenty of bars and restaurants along the lively seafront promenade. We suggest the Restaurant El Cenador in theHotel JOIA El Mirador by Iberostar to enjoy a quality culinary experience right next to Playa del Duque.
