Staying in the heart of the city
Downtown Puerto de la Cruz is home to numerous bars and restaurants, the casino and several hotels. Strolling through the streets, you’ll come across historic houses around the central Plaza del Charco. You’ll have quick access to museums (Museo Arqueológico, Museo de Arte Contemporáneo) and beaches (Playa del Muelle, Playa San Telmo).

Staying near the beach
Staying near the Playa del Castillo means you’ll be further from the town center, but you’ll enjoy quick access to the beach (10min walk) and peace and quiet, while still being close to the fortifications and fortress of San Felipe for which Puerto de la Cruz is famous.
Benefits:

- fortifications, seaside promenade and Loro Parque zoo nearby,
- beach within easy walking distance.
Disadvantages:
- Distance from downtown (20min walk),
- few hotel choices.

Staying in the hills at Malpais
Malpais is a neighborhood in the hills above Puerto de la Cruz. It includes a number of top-quality hotels, all with beautiful views over the city. Very residential and quiet, the area features several parks, including the beautiful Sitio Litre garden.
Benefits:
- Beautiful panoramas,
- calm,
- wide choice of hotels,
- lush surroundings, including the Sitio Litre garden.
Disadvantages:
- Far from beaches that are not easily accessible on foot (slope),
- far from the city center,
- few restaurants and shops.

Staying in the hills of La Paz
La Paz is famous for its viewpoint, from which you can see the Playa de Martiánez, a black sand beach. This large district, which also houses the Botanical Gardens, looks out directly onto the sea. That’s why a number of hotels have set up shop here!
Benefits:
- Beautiful sea views,
- wide choice of hotels, including luxury ones,
- close proximity to a number of tourist attractions (botanical gardens, Jardin Sitio Litre, Mirador la Paz…).
Disadvantages:
- Busy coastal road,
- far from the city’s southern beaches, which are not easily accessible on foot (slope),
- few restaurants and shops.

OUR TIPS TO RENT A CAR IN Tenerife
- Compare prices on our preferred platform: DiscoverCars – one of the best rated sites.
- If you’re planning to explore the mountains, don ‘t take the smallest cars. A more powerful engine will be more comfortable.
- But don’t take too big a car either, as some roads are narrow.
- There’s a lot of demand and it’s an island, so book early.
1. Hotel Botanico y Oriental Spa Garden (5 stars)
Why stay there?
This 5-star hotel has it all! As well as offering magnificent views of the ocean and Mount Teide, it boasts an impressive infrastructure. Here you’ll find 4 restaurants, each with a different specialty (Spanish, Italian or Asian cuisine). We particularly appreciated the hotel’s elegant decor, as well as that of our room. The walls were adorned with antique paintings of tropical birds. It gave the room an exotic, immediate vacation feel! Our balcony overlooked the hotel’s lush gardens. Finally, don’t hesitate to wander around the hotel: we found a pool table and couldn’t resist playing a game!

2. Hotel Tigaiga (4 stars)
Why stay there?
We spent a very good night at Hotel Tigaiga. This 4-star establishment, surrounded by tropical gardens, exudes calm and serenity. There was even a cactus garden! Thanks to its hilltop location in the Malpais district, we had a beautiful panoramic view of the sea and the rest of the city from our room and its pleasant balcony. The decor was modern, with green hues in harmony with the surrounding vegetation. Last but not least, this hotel includes quality amenities, such as a restaurant, and even a ping-pong table!

Why stay there?
Would you like to prepare your own meals in a friendly, human-scale setting? Choose Tigaiga Suites! You’ll find 30 apartments with large terraces overlooking the pool, the Atlantic Ocean, Mount Teide and the Orotava Valley. The interiors are modern and the garden is particularly pleasant. A 20-minute walk will take you to the city center.

Why stay there?
This hotel is very good value for money. We appreciated its contemporary and pleasant decor. Rooms are bright and some have balconies, perfect for relaxing in the sun. The highlight of this establishment is its rooftop terrace with Jacuzzi and solarium, and its central location. Tourist attractions, restaurants and entertainment venues such as the casino are all within easy walking distance of this accommodation.

6. Hotel AluaSoul Orotava Valley (adults-only)
Why stay there?
Do you love swimming and lounging? If so, choose this hotel, which is only a ten-minute walk from Playa del Castillo. It features a large outdoor pool, 2 restaurants and a fitness center offering fitness and yoga classes. We appreciated the elegance of the very spacious rooms. Their decoration, as well as that of the common areas, is contemporary and lightly colored, to appeal to as many people as possible. Last but not least, we noticed darts and a ping-pong table, ideal for gamers!

Why stay there?
We liked this 4-star hotel, located in the center of Puerto de la Cruz. Rooms are simple yet modern and comfortable, with either a balcony or terrace. The rooftop pool offers superb views of the city and sea. The decor of the rooms and common areas was simple but comfortable, and to our taste. Last but not least, we recommend this establishment if you want to do a lot of sightseeing, as tourist attractions, shops and restaurants are all within easy reach.

8. Puerto Palace Hotel (4 stars)
Why stay there?
In our opinion, the Puerto Palace offers many advantages. With its many facilities, this is a resort hotel of choice. Here you can take part in a range of sporting activities (tennis, mini-golf, table tennis) and enjoy a show in the grand salon. You’ll notice a chic, designer decor. We found the exteriors very pleasant, not only for the lush greenery but also, and above all, for the swimming pools. One of them even has a fountain! Add to this the location in the quiet Malpais district, and you’re sure to have a great vacation!

Why stay there?
This seaside hotel caught our eye. Indeed, it is impressive because it has many storeys and is built on the edge of a cliff. It offers luxury amenities, as evidenced by its 2 outdoor pools surrounded by gardens, or its well-equipped spa. Inside, the decor is chic and sober. The ocean views are exceptional. The restaurant offers both Mediterranean and international dishes, as does the pool bar.
