Why stay at Los Gigantes?

Los Gigantes is a spectacular natural setting, with majestic cliffs plunging into the ocean. We really liked the atmosphere here. You can enjoy water sports from the marina, incredible hikes (in the mountains or by the sea) and, of course, relaxing moments on the black sand beaches. The resort is also an excellent starting point for dolphin and whale watching cruises.

Staying in the Los Gigantes district

Playa de los Guios, Los GIgantes
Playa de Los Guios

It’s the northernmost district of the resort and closest to the impressive cliffs that give it its name. We also really appreciated the proximity of the marina, the starting point for sea excursions and a lively place with restaurants and shops.

Benefits:

  • Spectacular view of the Los Gigantes cliffs
  • Close to the marina and its nautical activities
  • Lively town center with shops and restaurants
  • Direct access to Playa de Los Guios

Disadvantages:

  • High tourist numbers
  • Difficult access and parking in high season
  • Some steep streets

Our favorite hotels:

  • Klayman Diamond Hotel
  • Hotel Crystal Los Gigantes
  • Royal Sun Resort Hotel

Staying in Puerto Santiago

View from the Paseo Maritimo in Los Gigantes
View from the Paseo Maritimo

This central neighborhood offers a more residential setting while remaining close to attractions. We enjoyed strolling along its maritime promenade (Paseo Maritimo), which runs along the coast and offers superb views.

Benefits:

  • Ideal central location
  • Beautiful seaside walk
  • Quieter, residential neighborhood
  • Close to the Charco de Isla Cangrejo natural swimming pool

Disadvantages:

  • Fewer restaurants and shops
  • More limited entertainment
  • Heavy traffic in high season
  • Steep terrain

Our favorite hotels:

  • Barcelo Santiago Hotel
  • Hotel Ona Las Rosas
  • Hotel El Marques Palace

Staying in the La Arena district

Playa de la Arena, Los Gigantes
La Playa de la Arena

The southernmost district is renowned for its beaches: Playa de la Arena, popular with families, and Playa de Las Conchas, popular with surfers. We loved the picturesque ambience of the former and the sporting atmosphere of the latter.

Benefits:

  • Excellent swimming beach
  • Lively shopping area
  • Surf spot at Playa de Las Conchas
  • Magnificent sunsets (even if they are splendid from all over the city)

Disadvantages:

  • Waves and currents can be strong
  • Very busy in high season
  • Difficult parking
  • Far from the port and town center

Our favorite hotels:

  • Hotel Landmar Playa de La Arena
  • Hotel Landmar Costa Los Gigantes

Other useful tips to keep in mind

  • The Los Gigantes Carnival period, in late February/early March, is particularly lively. Book well in advance.
  • To make the most of your stay, take the time to stroll along the Paseo Maritimo.

  • Weather permitting, take a dip in the safe natural pool, Charco de Isla Cangrejo.
  • And remember to respect the environment by following local wildlife regulations.
OUR TIPS TO RENT A CAR IN Tenerife
  • Compare prices on our preferred platform: DiscoverCars – one of the best rated sites.
  • If you’re planning to explore the mountains, don ‘t take the smallest cars. A more powerful engine will be more comfortable.
  • But don’t take too big a car either, as some roads are narrow.
  • There’s a lot of demand and it’s an island, so book early.
