1. Los Gigantes from the Mirador Archipenque
Why visit?
Located high above the town and port, the Mirador Archipenque offers arguably the best view of the impressive Los Gigantes cliffs. We were overwhelmed by the panorama stretching out before us. On a clear day, you can see the island of La Gomera. The site is particularly spectacular at sunset, when the last rays of sunlight ignite the rock faces. Don’t miss the article we’ve dedicated to this incredible spot, which will be available soon.
Practical advice
- Located on the main road between Puerto de Santiago and Tamaimo
- Limited parking but easy access by car
- There’s an on-site bar-cafeteria and gift store.
- Free access
- Come at sunset for the most beautiful lights
- More info on the official website here
2. Watching dolphins from the deck of a sailboat
Why visit?
The Los Gigantes marina is the ideal starting point for encounters with the dolphins and whales that frequent the Canary Islands’ waters. We opted for a sailing excursion, which offers a more authentic and ecological experience. You can enjoy a snack on board while observing these magnificent cetaceans in their natural habitat, and even take a snorkeling break if conditions permit.
Practical advice
- Duration: about 3 hours
- Price: from €70 per person

Playa de la Arena is the city’s largest beach. It’s a popular swimming spot for tourists and locals alike. They create a striking contrast with the ocean. Our article on Playa de la Arena will soon be online.

4. A drink overlooking the waves from Playa de las Conchas
Why visit?
This small beach, next to Playa de la Arena, offers a more intimate setting for admiring the ocean. Especially since it’s a surf spot. We particularly appreciated its wide steps, which form a natural amphitheatre facing the waves. You can sit back and watch the swell or enjoy the sunset. We enjoyed a smoothie bought at Restaurant Le Neptune, located between the 2 beaches. We’ve devoted an entire article to Playa de las Conchas, which will soon be online.
Practical advice
- No supervision, not recommended for swimming
- Strong currents and big waves
- Not suitable for families with children
- Limited parking spaces on Avenida Maritima Puerto de Santiago

OUR TIPS TO RENT A CAR IN Tenerife
- Compare prices on our preferred platform: DiscoverCars – one of the best rated sites.
- If you’re planning to explore the mountains, don ‘t take the smallest cars. A more powerful engine will be more comfortable.
- But don’t take too big a car either, as some roads are narrow.
- There’s a lot of demand and it’s an island, so book early.
5. Stroll along the Paseo Maritimo
Why visit?
The Paseo Maritimo is a pleasant seaside promenade that runs along the coast. This walk offers superb panoramic views of the ocean, the surrounding beaches and, of course, the imposing cliffs that give the site its name. We really enjoyed this peaceful morning stroll as we jumped out of bed. But it’s perfect after a good meal! At sunset, the atmosphere is more romantic. We’ll tell you more in an article dedicated to the paseo, to be published shortly.
6. Diving in the Isla Cangrejo natural pool
Why visit?
This natural pool formed by the solidification of lava is a unique site in Los Gigantes. Although protected from the waves by a concrete wall, it can be dangerous at high tide, in the event of a heavy swell. We found the site closed during our visit for this reason. But the view from the Paseo Maritimo was splendid.
Practical advice
- Check tide conditions before your visit.
- The site is sometimes closed for security reasons.
- In summer, there are fewer people in the morning or at the end of the day.
- Some surfaces may be slippery.
- Remain vigilant and respect the natural environment.

7. Meditate in the Chapelle du Saint-Esprit
Why visit?
The Chapel of the Holy Spirit, or Iglesia del Espíritu Santo, is a haven of peace in the heart of Puerto de Santiago. This place of worship offers a moment of calm and contemplation, far from the hustle and bustle of tourism. We appreciated its architectural simplicity, which contrasts with the grandiose surrounding landscapes. Here you can take a spiritual or cultural break as you explore the city.

Playa de Los Guios offers the closest view of the Los Gigantes cliffs from the mainland. We were fascinated by the contrast between the glowing grey rock of the cliffs and the blue of the ocean. It’s a supervised beach with afamily atmosphere. It is partly closed due to rockfalls. It’s also the closest beach to the marina, making it an excellent starting point for sea outings. We’ll tell you more in the article we’ve dedicated to it, which will be online shortly.

Excursions around Los Gigantes
Los Gigantes is an excellent base for exploring the region. Here are a few suggestions for excursions:
- Climb Mount Teide: Spain’s highest peak, the volcano rises to 3,718 meters. It dominates the whole island of Tenerife and is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. We were captivated by the windswept lunar landscape. It’s possible to make the ascent at night, under the stars, to watch the sun rise from the summit. See prices, photos and availability.
- Push on to the village of Masca: a high village (600m altitude) 40min drive north of Puerto de Santiago. We found this traditional hamlet at the end of a winding road, in a panorama of vertiginous gorges. Masca is the starting point for numerous hikes through its magnificent ravines. Some are organized from the Marina de Los Gigantes and led by an expert guide. See prices, photos and availability.
- Explore Teno Rural Park: Even further north, a 1h10-minute drive from Puerto de Santiago, this park is an unspoilt natural gem. This ancient massif is home to remarkable biodiversity and rare endemic species. It’s a hiker’s delight. We discovered a whole network of spectacular trails between peaks and ravines. Why not take advantage of this exceptional environment to explore further and try your hand at canyoning? Seeprices, photos and availability.

The city is bursting with good restaurants serving local and international specialities. While we particularly enjoyed brunch at The Tea House & Bar, here are a few other suggestions:
- Restaurant Aqua: High-end fusion cuisine overlooking the cliffs.
- Restaurant Rosso Pomod’oro: Very good Italian restaurant serving excellent pizzas.
- Restaurant Tas-K: A tapas bar where you can enjoy local produce until late.
Visiting Los Gigantes in winter
Los Gigantes is a very pleasant destination in winter, with a mild, pleasant climate and temperatures that don’t drop below 14°C. We were there before Christmas and enjoyed the beaches, even if the water was admittedly a little chilly. Temperatures, on the other hand, were ideal for hiking. Some days can be windy, especially at higher altitudes, and the ocean can be rough, but it’s a pleasure to watch.
