You can&#8217;t see everything, but you can still discover a lot!<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>It&#8217;s a popular island, so we recommend that you visit certain places early so you can park and visit easily, such as Roque Nublo.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>If it does rain, which is rare, it never lasts long. created our ideal itinerary for you in Gran Canaria.<br\/>It allows you to see a bit of every type of landscape, and visit all the most famous places.<br\/>The days are balanced as best we can, so as class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Stop 1 &#8211; Dolphin cruise<\/h3>\n\n<p>Start gently, but with excitement: a boat trip to watch dolphins and whales and admire the island from the sea.<br\/>A large number of whales live around the Canary Islands, and you can see them all year round (although the species change). Departures are mainly from the port of Puerto Rico in the south of the island.<br\/><a href=\"https:\/\/www.getyourguide.com\/s\/?q=Gran+Canaria+dauphins&amp;searchSource=3&amp;partner_id=R3GYW4V&amp;cmp=CAL\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener sponsored nofollow\">See boat tour options<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n<p>If you book it on the first day, you can always change to another day of your stay if conditions aren&#8217;t right.<\/p>\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Stop 2 &#8211; Village of Fataga<\/h3>\n\n<p>From Puerto Rico, we recommend a short climb to the mountains on route GC60.  <br\/>Today we&#8217;re not climbing all the way up to the heart of the island, but just a little. Our arrival point is the charming village of Fataga.<\/p>\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/photos.smugmug.com\/Canarias-Lovers\/Gran-Canaria\/Best\/Villages-towns\/i-3qpSnm5\/0\/ZH7fWT8Q6KfKSLhnLXwSGxJVRVx94X9cpkzGhQFd\/L\/fataga-pueblo-L.jpg\" alt=\"stone and lime house in Fataga\"\/><\/figure>\n\n<p>We loved the views of the mountains all around, as the village lies in the heart of the valley.<br\/>One of these houses is particularly photogenic, with the stones showing through the whitewash.<\/p>\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Stop 3 &#8211; Mundo Aborigen<\/h3>\n\n<p>On the way back down, there&#8217;s a lovely viewpoint, and also the Mundo Aborigen park.<br\/>It&#8217;s an open-air museum featuring reconstructions and replicas of the houses in which the Guanches lived. This makes it much easier to get an idea of what the villages looked like.<br\/>We also loved the views over the valley from the site.<\/p>\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/photos.smugmug.com\/Canarias-Lovers\/Gran-Canaria\/Best\/Parks\/i-BrXHGS7\/0\/DFw4RPCq6mRjTZHMKfLSML2Xp4v6Qzf9pCTbc54js\/L\/mundo-aborigen-L.jpg\" alt=\"reconstruction at Mondo Aborigen\"\/><\/figure>\n\n<p>If you visit archaeological sites during the rest of your trip, it will help you better understand the ruins you see.<\/p>\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Stop 4 &#8211; Sunset at Maspalomas dunes and Meloneras lighthouse<\/h3>\n\n<p>End the day in Meloneras.<br\/>You can explore around the lighthouse, along the beach and lagoon and have fun in the <a href=\"https:\/\/canarias-lovers.com\/en\/dunes-maspalomas-gran-canaria-2\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Masplomas dunes<\/a>.<br\/>They are even more beautiful at sunset, when their color turns orange.<\/p>\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/photos.smugmug.com\/Canarias-Lovers\/Gran-Canaria\/Best\/Hikes-nature\/i-WfQrQxZ\/0\/CrLgzm4q4HRMC5sgWkknswwBcbqQsZvGmwSzVLxfS\/L\/maspalomas-dunes-beach-L.jpg\" alt=\"Duens de Maspalomas\"\/><\/figure>\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Day_2_%E2%80%93_Puerto_de_Mogan_and_La_Aldea\"><\/span>Day 2 &#8211; Puerto de Mogan and La Aldea<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Stop 1 &#8211; Rainbow Rock<\/h3>\n\n<p>Today we&#8217;re exploring southwest Gran Canaria.<br\/>We start with a bit of a drive, to take advantage of the fact that it&#8217;s less crowded in the morning.<br\/>Our first stop is Rainbow Rock, a little detour through the United States&#8230;<br\/>On the magnificent road between Puerto de Mogan and La Aldea, you&#8217;ll come across some very colorful walls, rainbows of rock. It&#8217;s easy to stop and admire the different layers of minerals and their colors. Cenobio de Valeron is one of the most fascinating.<\/p>\n\n<p>Perched on a rocky escarpment, it&#8217;s a spectacular collection of over 300 man-made caves. Built by the ancient Canaries over 800 years ago, this archaeological site fascinated us both for its size and its function.<\/p>\n\n<p>These cavities, dug into the soft rock, served as collective granaries to store grain harvests and other foodstuffs, a vital function for the survival of the populations.<br\/>They are organized in terraces, demonstrating their know-how and ingenuity.<br\/>We loved this truly unique site (apart from the difficulty of parking).<\/p>\n\n<p>Visit at opening time (10am), to make parking easier. Closed on Mondays.<\/p>\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Stop 2 &#8211; Galdar<\/h3>\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/photos.smugmug.com\/Canarias-Lovers\/Gran-Canaria\/Galdar\/Casa-Museo-Antonio-Padron\/i-ZdwqTFZ\/0\/KGvvJ5fdLtSKmP3knCd2ZKxRwMTNCbLtvfNkdPB7m\/L\/Casa-Museo-Antonio-Padron-L.jpg\" alt=\"Antonio Padr&#xF3;n Museum\"\/><\/figure>\n\n<p>Then off to the town of Galdar if you like art and archaeology.<br\/>It&#8217;s a pretty town with colorful houses (though not as beautiful as others). Its 700 funerary structures bear witness to civilizations.<br\/>The partially reconstructed tumuli are imposing. They date back over 1300 years and were built from volcanic stone in a lava field.<br\/>This site offers a fascinating mix of historic sites and magnificent landscapes. It starts with an hour&#8217;s drive.<br\/>We recommend starting directly with the Roque Nublo hike (if you can walk). The parking lot is small, and fills up fast.<br\/>The hike will take between 1h and 1h30. It takes you to discover a volcanic rock at over 1800m altitude with magnificent views over the whole island.<br\/><a href=\"https:\/\/canarias-lovers.com\/en\/hike-roque-nublo-gran-canaria\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Find out more about hiking<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Stop 2 &#8211; Mirador Pico de las Nieves<\/h3>\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/photos.smugmug.com\/Canarias-Lovers\/Gran-Canaria\/Best\/Views\/i-qhPPFwH\/0\/pWQfsr7jpsJg37ZQqLZzPsj3pL8fCD9F3qZvQv6J\/L\/Mirador-pico-nieves-L.jpg\" alt=\"Mirador Pico de las Nieves\"\/><\/figure>\n\n<p>The mountains of Gran Canaria offer many beautiful viewpoints. With deep valleys, there are often beautiful views of the ridgelines opposite.<br\/>The best-known viewpoint is Pico Nieves<br\/>It stands at an altitude of 1949m, with breathtaking views of Roche Nubio and the island of Tenerife in the background. And even if the view isn&#8217;t unobstructed, the experience can be well worth it as it&#8217;s often above the sea of clouds!<\/p>\n\n<p>On the other hand, you should know that it&#8217;s popular, but the parking lot isn&#8217;t very large. But as it&#8217;s just a point of view, people arrive and leave frequently.<\/p>\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Stop 3a &#8211; Tejeda<\/h3>\n\n<p>Next, we offer two villages. They&#8217;re both very different and very interesting. If you have the time, we recommend you visit both. If you have to choose, Tejeda is the most popular, but Artanera is our favorite.<\/p>\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/photos.smugmug.com\/Canarias-Lovers\/Gran-Canaria\/Best\/Villages-towns\/i-3JLsShJ\/0\/CdjGDGhvFxBBqqRxmfWnWqLJptpVPbtBKWVxSKpFD\/L\/Fataga-3-L.jpg\" alt=\"Tejeda\"\/><\/figure>\n\n<p>Tejeda is an exceptional mountain village in terms of panoramic views. It really is a Balcon village with views over the valley and mountains. It&#8217;s right at the crossroads.<\/p>\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Stop 3b &#8211; Artenara (or both)<\/h3>\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/photos.smugmug.com\/Canarias-Lovers\/Gran-Canaria\/Best\/Villages-towns\/i-HxsSGFm\/0\/DFqVjWr8wjhH99DxQtPQczcMqLK9HbPMsphGdSLS7\/L\/Artenara-view-L.jpg\" alt=\"Artanera\"\/><\/figure>\n\n<p>Artenara is the village of panoramic views. From the village, you can admire the valley dominated by Roque Nublo, which stands out perfectly against the blue sky.<br\/>These views inspired one of Spain&#8217;s most important writers, Miguel de Unamuno. One of the watchtowers is dedicated to him.<br\/>We really enjoyed taking in the different views and visiting the museums: troglodyte houses and a reconstruction of an archaeological site.<\/p>\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Day_5_%E2%80%93_Aguimes_and_its_barrancos\"><\/span>Day 5 &#8211; Ag\u00fcimes and its barrancos  <span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Stop 1 &#8211; Barranco de Vacas<\/h3>\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/photos.smugmug.com\/Canarias-Lovers\/Gran-Canaria\/Best\/Hidden-gems\/i-c5pvdwL\/0\/MsLkZvR7W7Ghg4WTXKd2pGXmpV8V2s46ppLkRQhK3\/L\/Barranco_Vacas-L.jpg\" alt=\"Barranco de Las Vacas\"\/><\/figure>\n\n<p>If you&#8217;ve been dreaming of going to Utah to visit the canyons, but haven&#8217;t yet had the chance, check out the Barranco de Las Vacas, just outside Ag\u00fcimes. The curves created by the water give you a tiny glimpse of the beauty of such landscapes.<br\/>If, on the other hand, you&#8217;ve already visited the canyons of Utah, you should know that it&#8217;s very small.<\/p>\n\n<p>There&#8217;s very little parking, so we recommend you start here in the morning.<br\/><a href=\"https:\/\/canarias-lovers.com\/en\/barranco-vacas-gran-canaria-tobas-colores\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">See our full article<\/a> to find out how.<\/p>\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Stop 2 &#8211; Barranco de Guayadeque<\/h3>\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/photos.smugmug.com\/Canarias-Lovers\/Gran-Canaria\/Best\/Views\/i-RH9W4hm\/0\/NHCvDnZtQz2ww2P3DKhp6pR3ThrJWcjmvMwbTBd6C\/L\/Barranco_Guayadeque_walk-L.jpg\" alt=\"Barranco de Guayadeque\"\/><\/figure>\n\n<p>Then discover another, very different valley. You can drive up the valley to admire the views. It&#8217;s also the starting point for several hikes.<br\/>At the beginning of the road is a large interpretation center that shows you how the aborigines lived in this valley. In our opinion, it&#8217;s one of the best museums on the subject, but you should know that it&#8217;s closed on Mondays.<\/p>\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Stop 3 &#8211; Ag\u00fcimes<\/h3>\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/photos.smugmug.com\/Canarias-Lovers\/Gran-Canaria\/Aguimes\/Town\/i-48LDq7W\/1\/LxPRgzv2KbMRqW52dNQc6rtGHZWkrQvFCjnjbDtcP\/L\/aguimes-calle-L.jpg\" alt=\"colorful alley in Ag&#xFC;imes\"\/><\/figure>\n\n<p>Ag\u00fcimes is truly our favorite spot on Gran Canaria.<br\/>We loved the maze of alleyways. The houses in the old center are made of stone and covered with lime. We start in the old town.<\/p>\n\n<p>The Vegueta district in the south of Las Palmas is the historic heart of the capital. This 15th-century heart of the city is home to numerous monuments, including the Canary Cathedral and the Casa de Col\u00f3n. We loved wandering through the narrow streets with their colorful buildings and history-laden colonial houses. This place of worship fascinated us above all for its grandiose, heterogeneous architecture, a symbol of several eras. You&#8217;ll notice that the building has 3 naves and 11 chapels.
