Playing in the Maspalomas dunes: a must!<\/h2>\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/photos.smugmug.com\/Canarias-Lovers\/Gran-Canaria\/Best\/Hikes-nature\/i-WfQrQxZ\/0\/CrLgzm4q4HRMC5sgWkknswwBcbqQsZvGmwSzVLxfS\/L\/maspalomas-dunes-beach-L.jpg\" alt=\"Maspalomas dunes\"\/><\/figure>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The <a href=\"https:\/\/canarias-lovers.com\/en\/dunes-maspalomas-gran-canaria-2\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Maspalomas dunes<\/a> are one of the island&#8217;s must-see attractions.<br\/>You can admire them or have fun riding on them!<br\/>The two best places to admire them are from Maspalomas beach, with access from the lighthouse, and from the promenade around the Mirador de las Dunas, on the Playa del Ingles side.<br\/>We advise you to admire them at sunrise or sunset, so that the colors and shadows stand out more.<\/p>\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">2. Dolphin watching<\/h2>\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/photos.smugmug.com\/Canarias-Lovers\/Gran-Canaria\/Dolphins\/i-gCrMjJh\/0\/DbnFqQDFfQtxqrc2XcK64drK7H5pxZkQGXxKwVPm9\/L\/dolphins_2-L.jpg\" alt=\"Dolphins off Gran Canaria\"\/><\/figure>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">We love the whale and dolphin watching tours. We were very hopeful, and were lucky enough to see some dolphins. Climb to Pico de las Nieves viewpoint<\/h2>\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/photos.smugmug.com\/Canarias-Lovers\/Gran-Canaria\/Best\/Views\/i-qhPPFwH\/0\/pWQfsr7jpsJg37ZQqLZzPsj3pL8fCD9F3qZvQv6J\/L\/Mirador-pico-nieves-L.jpg\" alt=\"view from Pico de las Nieves\"\/><\/figure>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The mountains of Gran Canaria offer many beautiful viewpoints. With deep valleys, there are often beautiful views of the ridgelines opposite.<br\/>The most famous viewpoint is the one at Pico de las Nieves.<br\/>It stands at an altitude of 1949m, with breathtaking views of Roche Nubio and the island of Tenerife in the background. And even if the view isn&#8217;t unobstructed, the experience can be well worth it as it&#8217;s often above the sea of clouds!<\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">On the other hand, you should know that it&#8217;s popular, but the parking lot isn&#8217;t very large.<br\/>The view is to the west. This is where you can watch the sunset. But for the best view of Roche Nubio and Tenerife, it&#8217;s best to avoid facing the sun.<\/p>\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">5. Hiking at Roque Nublo<\/h2>\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/photos.smugmug.com\/Canarias-Lovers\/Gran-Canaria\/Best\/Hikes-nature\/i-6sD8Xjg\/0\/9NRcmdWfzG8qSzFDZZWzVnZddGVSpKqRrmtGBzfw\/L\/Roque-nublo-2-L.jpg\" alt=\"Roque Nublo hike\"\/><\/figure>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Roque Nublo is one of the island&#8217;s best-known and most easily identified spots. It&#8217;s a landmark in the middle of the mountains.<br\/>It&#8217;s not the highest point on the island, but its shape stands out from the viewpoints all around.<br\/>You have to hike 1.5km to reach its base, and we highly recommend it.  <br\/>There are no technical difficulties on the way.<\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">But 3 things you need to know:  <br\/>&#8211; Come early in the morning or late in the day for parking!<br\/>&#8211; There are no toilets in the parking lot or on the path.<br\/>&#8211; Trails may be closed due to fire hazards. Admire the cliffs at Mirador del Balcon<\/h2>\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/photos.smugmug.com\/Canarias-Lovers\/Gran-Canaria\/Best\/Views\/i-v6PhvC7\/0\/D745RnPd8BcmjS27MSqpkw8fHNjVpqvHfxvtBZrpg\/L\/Mirador_el_Balcon-L.jpg\" alt=\"Mirador del Balcon\"\/><\/figure>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The west of Gran Canaria has very few buildings, as the cliffs drop sheer into the sea. The road between Agaete and <a href=\"https:\/\/canarias-lovers.com\/en\/best-things-to-do-la-aldea-san-nicolas-gran-canaria-visit\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">La Aldea<\/a> is very beautiful, and we recommend you drive it.<br\/>To the south, near La Aldea, a short detour takes you to the Mirador del Balcon, a viewpoint with a glass structure to better appreciate these cliffs and their geological features. The line of cliffs to the south is called the &#8220;Tail of the Dragon&#8221;, and it&#8217;s easy to see why!<\/p>\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">10. Stroll through Puerto Mogan, Gran Canaria&#8217;s Venice<\/h2>\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/photos.smugmug.com\/Canarias-Lovers\/Gran-Canaria\/Best\/Villages-towns\/i-nZQjHWd\/0\/C9rLJjD3ZPLLqT23DWmdq6BVhT4ZFgZZmD2fDrLDP\/L\/Puerto-de-mogan-L.jpg\" alt=\"Puerto de Mogan\"\/><\/figure>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Puerto de Mogan is a truly surprising place.<br\/>It&#8217;s not your typical Canary Island town. It is often referred to as the &#8220;Little Venice of the Canaries&#8221;.<br\/>Around the port and canals, the narrow streets are full of charm, with white houses with colorful features, and lots of plants.<br\/>It&#8217;s a romantic spot that appeals to couples, but everyone should enjoy strolling through its narrow streets.<br\/>See our article on <a href=\"https:\/\/canarias-lovers.com\/en\/best-things-to-do-puerto-mogan-visit\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Puerto de Mogan attractions<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">10. Biting into Cactualdea<\/h2>\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/photos.smugmug.com\/Canarias-Lovers\/Gran-Canaria\/Best\/Parks\/i-zNgJMcf\/0\/DkgP59rfZNkDgsxfR6NCn3THSxJzQHWQ6LHcwbm8P\/L\/cactaldea-L.jpg\" alt=\"Cactaldea\"\/><\/figure>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">If you prefer plants to old stones, Gran Canaria has some beautiful gardens.<br\/>In the north of the island, you&#8217;ll find the botanical garden<br\/>And to the south, we particularly enjoyed Cactualdea: the mix of different cacti and the views of the surrounding mountains. A relaxing walk (if you&#8217;re wearing good shoes&#8230;).<\/p>\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-genesis-blocks-gb-container box gb-block-container\" style=\"background-color:#fef0c3;margin-top:6%;margin-bottom:6%\"><div class=\"gb-container-inside\"><div class=\"gb-container-content\" style=\"max-width:700px\">\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><a href=\"https:\/\/canarias-lovers.com\/en\/gran-canaria-travel-guide-ebook\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\" noreferrer noopener\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/canarias-lovers.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/09\/inpost-Gran-Canaria-Lovers-EN.jpg\" alt=\"inpost Canarias Lovers FR\" class=\"wp-image-11529\"\/><\/a><\/figure>\n<\/div><\/div><\/div>\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">11. Admire the colors of Rainbow Rocks<\/h2>\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/photos.smugmug.com\/Canarias-Lovers\/Gran-Canaria\/Best\/Hikes-nature\/i-Pw45Pqx\/0\/CWbpwNtL9ZsvzW3njqNPGMRR5gS65nK5vdmDK3jqm\/L\/Rainbow-rocks-L.jpg\" alt=\"Rainbow Rocks\"\/><\/figure>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">This place, and the next two, will make you think you&#8217;re in the Great American West. We were very surprised. We didn&#8217;t expect to have such a great experience in Gran Canaria, and we&#8217;re delighted!<\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">First up is Los Azulejos, also known as Rainbow Rocks.<br\/>On the magnificent road between Puerto de Mogan and La Aldea, you&#8217;ll come across some very colorful walls. It&#8217;s easy to stop and admire the different layers of minerals and their colors. We felt as if someone had painted the mountain!<\/p>\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">12. Driving in the Valley of Tears<\/h2>\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/photos.smugmug.com\/Canarias-Lovers\/Gran-Canaria\/Best\/Views\/i-SLQxxS2\/0\/CKxTCTtgzVPsx5wFd23JDWv3Qx8HRsMjRqC7TcWvZ\/L\/mirador-el-molino-valley-tears-L.jpg\" alt=\"Mirador el Molino\"\/><\/figure>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The site is well worth a visit, with a winding, narrow road to reach the mill and its viewpoint. But the Mirador del Molino is one of our favorite views of Gran Canaria. The shades of orange and brown are superb!<\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The road up is GC210, which runs from La Aldea in the south-west up towards the center of the island. Its nickname is the Valley of Tears.<br\/>The mountain slopes are very arid and the reservoir very narrow. Think you&#8217;re in Utah in the Barranco de las Vacas<\/h2>\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/photos.smugmug.com\/Canarias-Lovers\/Gran-Canaria\/Best\/Hidden-gems\/i-c5pvdwL\/0\/DFtSZdXP52cSmLZvfHptsRPDf4pdRRzpHhHh9MKng\/L\/Barranco_Vacas-L.jpg\" alt=\"Barranco de las Vacas\"\/><\/figure>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">If you&#8217;ve been dreaming of going to Utah to visit the canyons, but haven&#8217;t had the chance yet, check out the Barranco de Las Vacas. The curves created by the water give you a tiny glimpse of the beauty of such landscapes.<br\/>If, on the other hand, you&#8217;ve already visited the canyons of Utah, you should know that it&#8217;s very small.<\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Access is along the Gran Canaria-550 road, in the southeast of the island. Nothing is indicated. Up the Barranco de Guayadeque<\/h2>\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/photos.smugmug.com\/Canarias-Lovers\/Gran-Canaria\/Best\/Views\/i-RH9W4hm\/0\/C5r2D7WJx6KKfFbQPFP5CQCpmqjkpMKgLLf63hwpx\/L\/Barranco_Guayadeque_walk-L.jpg\" alt=\"\"\/><\/figure>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">One of Gran Canaria&#8217;s great ravines is Guayadeque. It offers one of the most beautiful roads on the island, and it&#8217;s not very long. We recommend combining your visit to the village of Agu\u00efmes with this canyon. And once you&#8217;re there, be sure to visit the interpretation center at the beginning and walk around the village at the end.<br\/>Admire the colors of the rocks and vegetation.<br\/>It&#8217;s easy to see why the aborigines chose to settle here!<\/p>\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">18.
